Recent heavy rainfall in Beijing has resulted in 11 deaths and 27 missing persons.
Affected by Typhoon Doksuri, Beijing has experienced continuous heavy rainfall since July 29. The western, southwestern, and southern parts of the city have been hit by extremely heavy rain. As of 6:00 AM on August 1, the average rainfall across the city was 257.9 mm, with 235.1 mm in urban areas, 470.2 mm in Mentougou District, 414.6 mm in Fangshan District, 333.2 mm in Shijingshan District, 295.8 mm in Changping District, 285 mm in Fengtai District, 279.2 mm in Daxing District, and 242.2 mm in Haidian District; the highest hourly rainfall intensity was recorded at Qianlingshan in Fengtai District, reaching 111.8 mm/hour between 10:00 and 11:00 AM on July 31; two stations recorded cumulative rainfall exceeding 700 mm, namely Wangjiayuan Reservoir in Changping District (736.3 mm) and Gaoshan Rose Garden in Mentougou District (722.4 mm). According to statistics, as of 6:00 AM on August 1, this round of heavy rainfall has caused 11 deaths, including 2 people who died in the line of duty during disaster relief; another 27 people are missing, including 4 who went missing during disaster relief.

The deceased included 11 people, including 4 from Mentougou District, 4 from Changping District, 2 from Fangshan District, and 1 from Haidian District. Among them, one firefighter from the Haidian Fire Brigade of the Beijing Fire and Rescue Corps unfortunately died during rescue operations, and one township cadre from Mentougou District unfortunately died while patrolling. The identities of other victims are still being verified.
The missing included 27 people, including 13 from Mentougou District, 10 from Changping District, and 4 from Fangshan District. Among them, 4 members of the Blue Sky Rescue Team went missing after falling into the water while conducting disaster relief operations in Baicaowa Village, Fozizhuang Township, Fangshan District.
So far, this disaster has affected 44,673 people in 13 districts, with a total of 127,000 people evacuated. The economic losses caused by the disaster are still being calculated.
We express our deepest condolences to the victims and our sincere sympathy to the bereaved families and those affected. Currently, most areas of Beijing are still under a red flood warning. Continuous rainfall has increased the risk of secondary disasters such as floods, flash floods, and geological disasters. We urge citizens to pay close attention to warning information and the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
