The Academic Exchange Conference on the Frontier of Earthquake Source Physics and the Haicheng 7.3 Earthquake was successfully held in Haicheng.

2025-02-08

On February 4, an academic exchange meeting on the forefront of earthquake source physics and the Haicheng 7.3-magnitude earthquake was held in Haicheng City. More than 30 renowned experts and scholars from over ten well-known universities such as Tsinghua University and Peking University, relevant institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Disaster Research Institute of the Ministry of Emergency Management, and research institutes within the China Earthquake Administration, conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the successful prediction of the Haicheng earthquake, the seismogenic structure and dynamic mechanism of the earthquake, and other related scientific issues concerning earthquake prediction and earthquake disasters.

Experts conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the 1975 Haicheng earthquake prediction and its implications for short-term and medium-term prediction of strong earthquakes, broadband mobile seismic array detection in the Haicheng earthquake source area, and the seismogenic tectonic background and fine structure imaging of the central and southern segments of the Tan-Lu fault zone. The meeting also introduced the preparations for the 50th anniversary international conference on the Haicheng earthquake and extended a sincere invitation to the attending experts.

This meeting aims to commemorate the successful prediction of the Haicheng earthquake, to delve into the seismogenic structure and dynamic mechanism of the earthquake, and to exchange and discuss related scientific issues concerning earthquake prediction and earthquake disasters. Taking this meeting as an opportunity, we will review history, carry forward the spirit of the successful prediction, continue to tap into the professional advantages of earthquake science, strengthen basic scientific research on earthquake prediction, and contribute to answering the "big earthquake question".
