According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at 0:03 on June 10th in Maerkang City, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province (32.27°N, 101.82°E), with a focal depth of 10 kilometers; at 1:28, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Maerkang City, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province (32.25°N, 101.82°E), with a focal depth of 13 kilometers. The average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is approximately 3691 meters. Disaster relief efforts are underway.
Following the earthquake, the State Council's Earthquake Relief Command Center and the Ministry of Emergency Management immediately launched a national level four earthquake emergency response. Minister Huang Ming, who was in Hunan conducting investigations into the "4.29" major residential building collapse accident in Changsha and inspecting flood prevention work, immediately deployed resources, ordering the organization of search and rescue efforts, assessment of seismic trends, ensuring the livelihoods of affected people, preventing secondary disasters, and maintaining stability and public guidance. Leaders Min Yiren and Qiongse went to the command center immediately, connecting via video with the Sichuan Provincial Emergency Management Department, Fire and Rescue Corps, Seismological Bureau, and the rescue site to coordinate and understand the situation in the affected area, guide the dispatch of fire and rescue forces, and deploy rescue and disaster relief efforts. The Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a working group to Sichuan overnight to guide and assist local efforts in earthquake relief.
Currently, 450 members of the Sichuan Provincial Fire and Rescue Team and 370 members of the Forest Fire Fighting Team are heading to the epicenter for rescue, and more than 1280 people from 8 heavy and 8 light earthquake rescue teams from surrounding areas are assembled and ready for rescue operations.
